Automations: when this happens, do that

Automations are your site's little helpers: when something happens, they do something about it, automatically. Tag a customer in Mailchimp after their first order, email yourself when a referral code is used, keep your lists in step. Set a rule once and it keeps working while you are in the kitchen.

Where it is

Under Manage Site, click Automations.

Automations is listed under Active Features or Disabled Features on the Features page, and we turn it on per site.

Triggers

  • An email subscribe or resync.
  • A signup, by source.
  • An order placed, or not placed.
  • An order-count milestone, such as a customer's fifth order.
  • A discount code used.
  • A referral discount used.
  • A customer's email changed.
  • A marketing opt-out.

Actions

  • Apply Mailchimp tags.
  • Sync a Mailchimp list member.
  • Unsubscribe an email.
  • Send you an admin notification email.

Building a rule

Pick a trigger, add one or more actions, and enable the rule. One rule per trigger. Every run is recorded on the page, so you can see what fired and when.

Examples

  • First order placed, add the "Customer" tag in Mailchimp, so your welcome Journey starts.
  • Referral discount used, email you, so you can thank the referrer.
  • Marketing opt-out, unsubscribe the address in Mailchimp, so the two lists stay in step.
