Delivery routing: the best route for every driver

Planning delivery routes by hand is nobody's favorite job. Built-in delivery routing turns a day's delivery orders into tidy driver routes, on a map, with a print sheet for each driver, right inside your admin. No spreadsheets, no extra app, and fewer miles on the road.

Where it is

Under Locations & Delivery in the side menu, click Delivery Routing. Settings are on Delivery Routing Configuration, linked from the same page.

Turning it on

Enable with the Delivery Route Optimization toggle on the Features page.

Configuration

The Delivery Routing Configuration page, linked from the Delivery Routing page, shows your site's routing setup: the default and maximum driver counts, the most stops per route, whether drivers return to the start after the last stop, and the delivery origin the routes start from. If no origin is set there, routes start from the delivery origin on your Company Info page. We set these up for your site. To change any of them, message us from the help widget.

Routing a delivery day

  1. On Delivery Routing, pick the menu, the schedule and the locations. The page lists every delivery stop for that day. A stop with No address on file or No coordinates needs a fix on the customer before it can be routed.
  2. Set the number of Drivers and click Route Optimization. The optimizer groups nearby stops, orders them, and assigns them to drivers. It plans for where each driver ends, not only where they start.
  3. Review the Route Map and the Route Summary: stops, distance and load per driver.
  4. Fine-tune by hand. Move a stop to another driver in one click, or swap two stops within a route. Full-screen mode gives you the whole map.
  5. The result is saved as the day's Saved Route. If a customer changes an address later, the page warns you that one or more addresses have changed, so you can re-run.
  • A sheet per driver with each stop, customer, order and a check-off box.
  • Kitchen Pickups sheet for orders collected at the kitchen.
  • Driver Tips sheet with tips by driver and by stop, including split totals.
  • Text and CSV exports of the routes.
