How to create a new menu

Your menu is your shop window for the week: which meals customers can order, and when. Build as many menus as you like, each with its own dates, and they hand over to one another automatically. Set up next week's menu on Tuesday, and it simply opens on time.

Creating a menu

Go to Menus > Menus and click New Menu, or open an existing menu and click Duplicate & Edit to start from last week's. A duplicated menu moves its dates correctly, even across a daylight saving change or into a new year.

Set a start date, an end date (your order cutoff) and a delivery date. The alert at the top of the page always shows where the menu stands and what still needs doing before it can go live.

Adding meals

  1. Click Add Meal to Menu to open the meal picker.
  2. Type to search, and click a meal to add it to Meals On Menu. Meals already on the menu stay in the picker, marked Already added.
  3. Use the buttons next to a meal to edit it or take it off. Removed one by mistake? Click Restore. Nothing changes until you click Update.

A few handy extras:

  • Meals marked Always On Menu sit in their own section and appear on every menu. Untick Always On Menu on the meal to stop that.
  • Inactive meals on the menu are flagged with a one-click option to clear them off.
  • More than one delivery schedule a week? Tab between them to set their dates and names. Using menu segments? Tab between segments to fill each one. If you change the schedules on a menu that already has orders, the page warns you first.
  • Below the meal list you can reset all meals, and set an internal name for your team and a public name customers see.

The Menu Defaults page sets the values every new menu starts with, so you are not typing the same things each week.

Let the site build them for you

If your menus repeat, Menu Rotation can create each new menu for you: repeating the latest one, or cycling through a set of base menus, with tidy automatic names. See Menu Rotation: let your menus build themselves.

Going live

The quick links at the top of the page jump to this menu's reports or a preview. When everything looks right, tick Menu Enabled and preview once more. The menu opens on its start date.

From there the menu runs itself: it opens on its start date, closes at its end date, and hands over to the next menu. To close a menu early, or to take a late order after the cutoff, see What happens when a menu closes.
