How the automated referral program works
Happy customers are your best marketing. The referral program turns them into it automatically. Every customer gets their own code to share; when a friend uses it, the friend gets a treat and so does the customer who sent them. You set it up once, and word of mouth does the rest.
Turning it on
Enable with the Customer Self-Serve Automated Referrals toggle on the Features page.
Choosing the rewards
Go to Discounts & Credits > Discounts and click Manage Discount Archetypes. Here you decide what the friend gets on their first order, what the referring customer earns, and when each one expires. See Discount archetypes: the templates behind automatic discounts.
What customers see
- Each customer's personal referral code appears in a banner at the top of their account page the first time they visit it, with a "Share this code" line. You choose the title and description shown there.
- When a friend orders with the code, a reward discount is created for the referring customer automatically.
- Customers find their earned rewards under My Discounts on their account page, with the code and how to use it.
Keeping an eye on it
Referral codes live on Discounts & Credits > Discounts with your other discounts. There can be a lot of them, so they are hidden by default to keep the list tidy. In the Referral filter at the top of the page, pick Referral to see them, and click the Referral Code column to sort. Rewards earned by referrers show up there too.
You can edit any referral discount and check how often it was used, just like any other discount. See How to view discount usage.
Tip
Tell customers the program exists: a line in your welcome email, a banner for a week, a note in the bag. A referral program nobody knows about refers nobody.
