Menu segments: breakfast, lunch and dinner on one menu
Some kitchens do more than one meal a day. Menu segments split a menu into parts, such as Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, or Snacks and Mains, and can lay them out day by day. Customers find what they want faster, and you plan the kitchen by segment.
Turning it on
Menu segments come with the Menu Segments feature, listed on the Features page.
Menus > Menu Segments: your segment list
Each segment has:
- Segment Label: what customers see, such as "Breakfast".
- Segment Name: a short lowercase name the site uses, such as "breakfast".
- Allow use in Autofill Plans: meals in this segment can be picked when the site fills a plan order for a customer. See How to set up recurring meal plans.
Click New Segment to add one and the arrows to set the order. Click Save Changes when done. One built-in segment covers the whole menu; you can rename its label, but you cannot delete it.
Setting up a segmented menu
Open the menu (see How to create a new menu) and set:
- Menu Type: Segmented.
- Schedule Set By: Meal means each meal belongs to a delivery schedule you set, so the customer does not pick a delivery day for it. Customer means the customer picks the schedule, as on a standard menu. A segmented menu starts on Meal.
- Split Meals by Day of Week: place meals day by day, for example Monday lunch and Tuesday lunch.
- Group Products by Week: with days split, show each schedule on the order page as a week of days, each day with its own order cutoff.
Then, for each schedule (and each day, when split), add meals to each segment. Expand all and Collapse all help on a big week. A meal you remove can be restored from the same place.
What customers see
On the order page, customers can filter by segment and by day. Each meal card shows its segment and day, so "Tuesday dinner" is easy to spot.
In the kitchen
On menus grouped by week, the Daily Prep Report counts items per delivery day. See Your reports: a tour of the Reports page.
