Merchandise: sell shirts, cooler bags and more with your meals

Your regulars love your food. Many of them would happily wear your logo or carry their meals home in your cooler bag. Merchandise, or merch, lets you sell non-food items such as t-shirts, hoodies and cooler bags right next to your menu, in the same cart and the same checkout.

Turning it on

Merchandise is on for your site by default. Switch it on or off with the Special Menu Category: Merchandise toggle on the Features page.

Adding an item

Create each item like a meal, under Meals > Meals, and pick Merchandise as its category. Give it a name, a price, a good photo and a short description. See How to create new meals.

Merchandise has its own section on your order page and stays there week after week. You do not add it to each week's menu. To stop selling an item, make it inactive.

Selling a limited run, such as 50 holiday hoodies? Set a limited quantity on the item and the site stops selling it when they are gone. See Limited quantity: sell only what you made.

How merchandise works at checkout

  • Any order can include it. Customers add merchandise to a regular order, with or without meals.
  • Order minimums. Merchandise counts toward the order total like anything else in the cart.
  • Tax and fees apply to merchandise the same way they apply to meals.
  • Gift cards can pay for merchandise.
  • Credits cannot pay for merchandise. Credits are meant for meals, so the card covers the merchandise part of the order.
  • Discount codes do not apply to merchandise, by default. Your site's discount setup decides which categories a discount covers; we can adjust it for you. Each discount can also leave out more categories with its Category Exclusions. See How to create discounts.

Getting it to the customer

Merchandise goes out with the rest of the order, at the same pickup or on the same delivery. There is no separate shipping.

It shows everywhere the order does: the order and its confirmation email, the orders report and packing slips, the labels, and the totals, so your team packs it with the right bag. It stays off the grocery list, since there is nothing to cook. See How to print orders, packing slips and labels.

Ideas that sell

  • Reusable cooler bags: practical, eco-friendly, and your logo rides along on every pickup.
  • Shirts and hoodies: great for your gym partners and your biggest fans.
  • Seasonal drops: a limited run for the holidays, or for your anniversary.
  • Gifts: pair merchandise with a gift card for birthdays and holidays. See How to create a gift card from the admin.
