Bonus gift card promotion: spend more, earn a gift card

"Spend $75, get a $25 gift card" is one of the most effective promotions a meal prep business can run. Customers order a little more now, and come back later to spend their bonus. Your site runs the whole thing automatically: no codes, no spreadsheets, no manual emails.

Turning it on

Promotions come with the Promotions feature, listed under Active Features or Disabled Features on the Features page; we turn it on for your site.

Creating the promotion

  1. Go to Discounts & Credits > Promotions and click New Promotion.
  2. Choose the BonusGiftCardWithPurchase Promotion Type, give it a Public Display Name, set the Start Date and End Date, and click Add & Edit. The full promotion page opens.
  3. Tick Enabled, and add an Internal Description for your team if you like. The promotion works through your normal checkout, so you also need a live menu during its dates.
  4. Set the Minimum Purchase Amount, $1 or more. Your usual order minimums still apply on top.
  5. Skip Credits Bonus Percentage; that one belongs to the Bonus Meal Credits promotion.
  6. Pick the Bonus Gift Card to give away (one of your gift card amounts under Discounts & Credits > Voucher Options), and when it becomes usable with Gift Card Start Date. Most shops start it after the promotion ends, so the bonus brings customers back rather than discounting the same order.
  7. Set a Gift Card Expiration Date. A bonus card usually expires sooner than a regular gift card, say one or two months instead of a year, which gently encourages a return visit.
  8. Decide who can use it. By default, anyone holding the card can spend it, so a customer can pass it on to a friend. Tick Gift Card locked to purchaser to keep it with the person who earned it.
  9. Click Update.

What customers see

While the promotion runs, checkout shows whether the current order qualifies for the bonus, which is a lovely nudge to add one more meal. The bonus card is issued right after a qualifying order and emailed to the customer. It shows on the Gift Cards page with the source Promotion bonus.

Good to know

  • No discount code is needed; qualifying orders earn the bonus automatically.
  • Meal plan orders that meet the minimum earn a bonus card too.
  • There is no cap. A customer who places three qualifying orders earns three cards.
