How to send emails to new customers (with or without Mailchimp)
A warm welcome after someone's first order turns a one-time try into a regular. Your site already sends order confirmations; for a welcome email or a short series, you just need to know who is new. Here are four ways, from the simplest to the fully automatic.
Option 1: export this week's new customers
On the Reports page, open Orders by Menu, pick the menu, and under Menu Report Exports download First Time Orders. It lists everyone whose first order was on that menu. Import the file into any email tool. No Mailchimp needed.
Option 2: Mailchimp tags
If your site is connected to Mailchimp, your contacts can carry tags such as Eat•Fresh Subscriber (signed up) and Eat•Fresh Customer (placed an order). Build a Mailchimp segment on a tag and email it. See Mailchimp: grow your list and email the right customers.
Option 3: a Mailchimp Journey that runs itself
In Mailchimp, build a Customer Journey that starts when the Eat•Fresh Customer tag is added. Then, on your site, set up an Automation that adds that tag when a first order is placed (Option 4). From then on, every new customer gets your welcome series with no work from you.
Option 4: Automations
Manage Site > Automations runs an action when something happens on your site. Triggers include a signup, a signup from a particular form, an order placed or not placed, an order-count milestone, a discount code used, a referral used, an email change and a marketing opt-out. Actions include adding or removing Mailchimp tags, syncing a contact, unsubscribing an address, and emailing you a notification. "First order placed → add the Welcome tag" is one rule. See Automations: when this happens, do that.
No email service at all?
Signup forms on your site store addresses on your site, can email you when someone signs up, and still pass them to Mailchimp if you use it. Every signup is checked for spam first. Export the list whenever you like and use it with any email tool. See Spam checks: keep fake signups and bounced emails out.
