How to adjust label dates

Every meal label can carry two dates: when it was prepped and when to enjoy it by. Getting them right keeps customers confident and your kitchen on the right side of food safety. Two settings shift those dates to match how you actually cook.

The two settings

  • Label - Prep Days: moves the prep date printed on your labels.
  • Label - Consume By Days: moves the "consume by" date.

When a setting is off, its date is simply the day you print. When it is on, the date moves by the number of days you enter. Use a negative number for an earlier date: -1 prints yesterday's date, handy when you cook the day before you label.

Changing them

  1. Go to Manage Site > Settings.
  2. Find the label settings. The page has no search box, so use your browser's find (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) and type "label".
  3. Click Edit, enter the number of days, and tick Active.
  4. Click Update.

The next labels you print use the new dates. See How to print orders, packing slips and labels.

An example

You cook on Sunday, deliver on Monday, and meals are best within four days of cooking. Print on Monday with Prep Days at -1 and Consume By Days at 3: the labels read Sunday and Thursday.

Keywords: best by, use by, expiration date, sell by
