How to create a standalone payment

Sometimes you need to charge a customer outside a normal order: a catering job, an extra side they asked for by phone, a replacement bag. A standalone payment charges their saved card in seconds and sends them a proper receipt.

Creating the payment

Go to Orders & Payments > Payments and click New Payment.

  1. Choose the customer in Associated Customer: type part of their name, email or phone (at least 3 characters). Each match shows ($) when a card is saved from a past order, or (NO CARD).
  2. Enter the amount, and tick Tax Included in Price if the amount already includes tax. Leave it unticked to add tax on top. The total to charge is worked out and shown for you.
  3. Add a Public Description. The customer sees it on their receipt, and it stays in your records, so make it clear, for example "Catering for 12, Sept 30".
  4. Click Create Payment. The button shows the total, for example Create $54.00 Payment.

When the charge goes through, you see a success message, and a confirmation with a receipt is emailed to you and to the customer.

No card on file yet?

Add one for them: open the customer under Customers > Lookup / Manage and click Edit Billing Info (Support role or higher). Or ask the customer to add a card on their account page. See How to find a customer.
