How to cancel a customer meal plan subscription

Customers can pause or cancel their own plan from their account page, any time. When they would rather you do it for them, it takes a minute.

Finding the plan

Click the Active Customer Plans box on your dashboard, or go to Customers > Customer Meal Plans. Use the filters at the top to find the plan, then click Edit. You can also get there from the customer's management page, under Meal Plans.

Switch on Only Plans With Action Items to see the plans that need a look, with a count for each reason: Missing Payment Method, Billing Hold, Missing Order For Current Menu, and Skipped This Week (the customer skipped; nothing to do).

The easy way: Cancel Plan

The plan's edit page has a quick actions section, with the same actions the customer sees on their account page. Click Cancel Plan, check the confirmation, and click Yes.

The plan is set to Canceled, the customer gets a confirmation email, and the plan is archived. Tidy, and the right choice almost every time.

The manual way: change the status

Under Plan Status, choose Canceled and click Update. Renewals and future charges stop, but no email goes out and the plan is not archived. To archive it, click Archive Plan on the plan's page (it shows once the plan is no longer Active).

To find canceled plans later, go to Customers > Customer Meal Plans and pick Canceled and Archived in the Status filter.

Other quick actions worth knowing

  • Set to Complimentary turns a credits plan or a set-price package plan into a free plan in one click. Lovely for a friend of the business or a make-good.
  • Comp Plan Orders makes the meals on a plan's orders free for auto-fill and repeat-order plans. It creates a Free Order discount for that customer, so you can see what it cost you. The plan page shows whether that discount waives delivery fees and order fees. A card on file is not required when a comp plan order has nothing left to charge. However, a tip the customer adds, or a fee the discount does not waive, still needs a card.
  • Billing holds. If a payment fails, the plan goes on hold and shows it on the plan page and in user management. Renewals wait until the customer updates their card or a payment goes through.
  • Finalize Now lets a customer charge and place a waiting plan order themselves from their account page, before the grace window ends. It is a plan setting that we set up with you. See Pending orders: what they are and how finalizing works.
