How to configure dynamic macros for custom meals
When a customer builds their own bowl, they want to know what they are getting: protein, carbs, fat and calories for their choices, not a generic average. Dynamic macros do exactly that. The nutrition updates live as they pick each component and portion.
How it works
Your custom meal is made of meal components, such as chicken, rice and broccoli. Each component is linked to an ingredient, and each ingredient carries its macros for a set portion. The site adds it all up for whatever the customer builds. See Custom meals and meal components: let customers build their own.
Setting it up
- Add the macros to your ingredients. Under Meals > Ingredients, open each ingredient and add its protein, carbs, fat and total calories for one portion, for example "per 4 oz".
- Link each component to its ingredient. Under Meals > Meal Components, open the component and pick the Ingredient. Make sure the component is Active; the builder shows only active components.
- Check the portion sizes. The portion sizes a customer can choose are set on each component under Portion Options.
- Switch it on. Enable the Dynamic Meal Macros toggle on the Features page. Then open the custom meal, tick Use Dynamic Macros, and click Update.
The one thing to get right: units
Use the same kind of unit on the ingredient as on the component. If your ground turkey portions are in ounces, enter the turkey's macros per ounce-based portion too (per 4 oz, say). The amounts do not need to match, because the site does the conversion, but mixing cups on one side and ounces on the other leaves it guessing.
Tip
A nutrition database such as Nutritionix is a quick place to look up macros for common ingredients.
